While this article in Forbes on Why Immigrants Make Better Entrepreneurs is a bit of pulp, it’s a topic that generates a lot of casual speculation on why some people get a “big break” and others don’t. The article describes an immigrant, Christian Gheorghe, that was willing to take any job -…

Blooper Reel of the Day: The muppets managed plenty of goofs while shooting last year’s feature film. Here are the highlights.

Also starring the ever-charming Amy Adams and Jason Segel.

Interesting thought on the legend of Batman

The new black magic seems to be a fantastic camera from the looks of it, from what we read and from the small amount of “hands on” we have had at NAB… and for the price point its pretty legit.  So below will seem like more of a negative review, but its not… Isn’t that what we really want to know, what it can’t do?

So keeping in mind its just been released… there is a a great price point… it could be a solid option.  Yes… it might change my plans for my tax return.

We have two points of view from two of our guys on the ground…

First one:

Looks really good, all positives about it except for a few things:

Rolling shutter is bad, but not worse than any DSLR.

Only an internal battery, or power source. You can’t swap a battery on the fly without going to a third party system.

400, 800, 1600 iso

No HDMI out, just HDSDI

But yeah, cool camera for sure. Instead of trying to make the camera look like a traditional camera that had to be shaped that way for older tech, they’re trying to revolutionize the way you use a camera.

A 500gb drive will hold about 45 minutes of raw 2.5k but 5 hours of 1080 pro res. all continuous recording.

Second one

Pros

It shoots 2.5k RAW images for under $3k

Every clip can be tagged with metadata easily

Nice focus assist

Can also record in ProRes or DNxHD at 1080p

1/4” audio input

Headphone jack

Cons

No external battery & internal one only lasts about 90min

Only HD-SDI out

Records to standard SSDs which aren’t super cheap yet

Not a lot of custom options

No overcranking

Feels kinda plastic so I’m curious to see how it will hold up in the field

Overall I think it could be a nice camera especially for the price but I’m still skeptical right now & would probably go with the 5D MIII over this camera.

So check it out for yourself…

8 minutes of rare on set footage from “Jurassic Park”

From The Black List

From /Film:

/Film reader Bob M sent over a video I’ve never seen before — almost 8 minutes of behind the scenes footage from the set of Jurassic Park. Most of the footage is taken outside of the Jurassic Park Visitor’s Center and the first moments when the characters arrive on the island.

New Avengers footage (behind the scenes)

In the spirit of what we do as a magazine… here is some footage of the behind the scenes for the new movie Avengers.  Great stuff.  Interesting to see how the prep for a scene, how they set up camera work. (totalfilm.com)

What Happens in an Internet Minute
Via Intel:

In just one minute, more than 204 million emails are sent. Amazon rings up about $83,000 in sales. Around 20 million photos are viewed and 3,000 uploaded on Flickr. At least 6 million Facebook pages are viewed around the world. And more than 61,000 hours of music are played on Pandora while more than 1.3 million video clips are watched on YouTube.

All in all, that’s 625 terabytes of information sloshing about the tubes each minute.
If we do some math that’s 878.9 petabytes per day which is a bit difficult to wrap our mind around.
But if we convert that to the universal measurement of the MP3, we get the equivalent of about 235.9 billion songs passing through the internet and mobile networks each day.

No wonder people don’t have as much time to go to movies and watch TV.
